Advanced Manufacturing

Industries engaged in Machinery Manufacturing create end products that apply mechanical force, for example, the application of gears and levers, to perform work. Some important processes for the manufacture of machinery are forging, stamping, bending, forming, and machining that are used to shape individual pieces of metal. Processes, such as welding and assembling are used to join separate parts together. Although these processes are similar to those used in metal fabricating establishments, machinery manufacturing is different because it typically employs multiple metal forming processes in manufacturing the various parts of the machine. Moreover, complex assembly operations are an inherent part of the production process. *

The Agricultural, Construction, and Mining Machinery Equipment Manufacturing industry produces equipment ranging from farm machinery/equipment and powered mowing equipment, to construction machinery and surface mining machinery.

The Industrial Machinery Manufacturing industry comprises establishments involved in a wide range of manufacturing processes, from wafer processing equipment, semiconductor assembly and packaging equipment, and other semiconductor making machinery; to manufacturing printing and bookbinding machinery and equipment, such as printing presses, typesetting machinery, and bindery machinery.

The Commercial and Service Industry Machinery Manufacturing industry is made up of establishments primarily engaged in manufacturing commercial and service machinery, such as automatic vending machinery, commercial laundry and dry-cleaning machinery, office machinery, photographic and photocopying machinery, optical instruments and machinery, automotive maintenance equipment (except mechanic's handtools), industrial vacuum cleaners, and commercial-type cooking equipment.

The Commercial and Service Industry Machinery Manufacturing industry comprises establishments primarily engaged in manufacturing ventilating, heating, air-conditioning, and commercial and industrial refrigeration and freezer equipment.

The Metal Working Machinery Manufacturing industry includes establishments primarily engaged in manufacturing metalworking machinery, such as metal cutting and metal forming machine tools; cutting tools; and accessories for metalworking machinery; special dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures; industrial molds; rolling mill machinery; assembly machinery; coil handling, conversion, or straightening equipment; and wire drawing and fabricating machines.
